ROAR 2018 Preview & News

Steve Ecklund
MC for Red Deer and District ROAR

Like most hunting families Steve grew up and started hunting at a very early age. A full freezer at the end of November was the measure of success and even at a young age Steve was able to contribute thanks to a healthy red squirrel population!

His passion for the hunt quickly turned into a lifelong obsession. Steve has built an exceptional reputation as a far chase hunter. He is quoted as saying "It's not what we do ...it's who we are, and I am proud to be hunter".

His portfolio includes many different North American big game animals, many of which are of Pope & Young and Boone and Crocket class. His above average success rates for these "do it yourself" hunts as well as the outfitted hunts are impressive.

The ability to have this kind of success year in and year out is truly a testament to his commitment and passion for the outdoors.

Most recent highlights of his hunting career include the completion of the Four North American Wild Sheep (FNAWS)

Dove hunting takes place out of the Doña Coca Lodge. The hunts are conducted among three large roosting areas and feeding areas nearby approximately twenty to fifty minutes from the lodge. We are constantly scouting to ensure our clients have an excellent hunt.
There are no limits on doves; therefore, it’s conceivable for a hunter to shoot a few thousand doves in a single day. Each hunter will be assigned a “bird boy” who will be attentive to the hunter while in the field. He will ensure that shell pouches are always full, that cold drinks are always available and any other need the hunter may have. The bird boy has a counter to keep track of the downed birds as well as a backpack with a basic first aid kit and a radio to contact the guide should there be a need. The guide will occasionally be visiting all the hunters in the field to ensure that everything is going as planned

I am Hugo Pascuettín, a hunting guide with more than thirty years of hunting experience. It all began for me as a hobby with family and friends in my hometown of Villa Huidobro. Back then, my focus was boar hunting with trained dogs. Approximately sixteen years ago, I ventured into wingshooting for doves, ducks, pigeons and perdiz as well as big game hunting for buffalo, red deer, Axis deer and blackbuck antelope. These experiences became my passion. Over the years I have acquired a sixth sense, if you will, for the hunters’ needs and wants and the ability to make them a reality. I have hunted with many hunters from all over the world and have achieved excellent results.  HUGO PASCUETTIN WINGSHOOTING ADVENTURES is a result of this passion. This family-run operation provides a hospitable, homely atmosphere for hunters to enjoy as well as excellent hunts. Personalized service and attention is given to every imaginable detail. Allow me to make my passion yours.

Sincerely,
HUGO

An adult male can weigh up to 200 kilograms and the female from 80 to 120 kilograms. The wild boar does not have a fear of man, and its huge tusks making it a mortal enemy, probably the most dangerous for the hunter in Argentina, making it an important trophy owing to its ferocity. The hunting season is all year round.

Multi-Horned Ram
The ram usually has four large horns which may grow in any direction. It also has a variety of colours, including several shades o black, gray and brown. The ram is generally 86 cm high, with females weighing 45-57 kilos and males 54-80 kilos, is woolly and short-tailed. As the rest of the sheep and goats the hunting season is year round but mainly from March to December.

Just a sampling of what we have from Clive Kay. Eight limited edition prints including Bull Elephant, Cats of the World, Giraffe, Cheetah & Impala, Cape Buffalo, Lounging Leopard, and The Big Five.

Clive Kay was born and raised on a 4,000-acre farm In Zimbabwe. He credits his father for giving him an understanding and love of the natural world. With encouragement from his Dad to take up photography and Clive's favourite subject biology at school, the result in later years was an urge to start painting nature.
Throughout his artistic life, he has never received any formal art tuition and apart from some help from his artist friends, he is basically self-taught. The family moved to South Africa in 1965, but it was not until 1972 to that Clive started painting again. He recalls trying to take some basic art lessons, but the art teacher had no interest in wildlife. Rather than give up, he decided to teach himself. A year later he moved to England where he saw the original paintings of David Shepard, an artist who became world famous for painting elephants. With Shepard's influence, the urge to paint grew stronger. In 1975 he moved to Canada where he continued to pursue a career in personnel management.

He soon had the opportunity to meet and spend time with the artist Robert Bateman. Clive vividly remembers two private sessions with Bateman in his Ontario home. His advice proved invaluable years later. In 1983 Clive gave up his personnel job returned to Africa and started to paint full time. 1986 saw his return to Canada when he introduced his work for the first time to the Canadian and American public with exhibitions in Toronto and New York. After a courtship of seven years, he married his best friend, confidant and pillar of support, Enriqueta. She is always there as Clive's success has continued to grow. They travel together to the African bush every two years to research new paintings, which are almost always now based on personal experience. He has done a number of special commissioned paintings over the years, but by far "The Biggest One" was the inaugural painting the Walt Disney company commissioned for the opening of the Animal Kingdom in April 1998.
